Single seniors (over 65 years) can enjoy a complimentary Christmas Turkey dinner with all the trimmings, as well as dessert and wine. Attendance is by invitation, and about 35 seniors usually accept. A similar number of Lions and their spouses also sign up. The Ag Hall will be nicely decorated for the occasion, and It's always packed and lively!

Santa Ship 2017 - 1.jpg
Santa Ship: December 14, 2024

The Santa Ship will land at the Miners Bay dock at 1:00pm this year, and will leave at 3:00pm. Santa is greeted at the dock by the Mayne Island Firefighters and their truck. The truck is then pulled by Mayne Island elves to the Ag Hall where Santa and Mrs Claus hand out gifts to children on the island.
This tradition started in 1951 as a Bellingham Sea Scouts and Jaycees initiative. In 1997 the Bellingham Lions took over until 2019, when Covid put everything on hold. Issues between US & Canada Customs and Immigration, threatened to close it down for good until Mayne Island Lions found a home-grown solution in 2022, and then expanded it to include Saturna children in 2023. Plans are afoot to reach out to other Islands in 2025!
The point person for this event is Brian Dearden.
