Projects

Since 1971, the Mayne Island Lions have been a big part of the island. Many islanders will be familiar with the events we've held like the annual Salmon Barbecue, and our appearances at local events participation like the Fall Fair and Church Fair providing burgers and hot dogs! Lions have also busy with local projects that help the community and enhance island life.

Lions built:

  • The Adachi Pavilion in Dinner Bay Park

  • Original tennis courts behind the old fire hall (now located at the Community Centre).

  • Transition house and ramps at the Health Centre

  • Both heliport pads at the Health Centre

  • The playground at Dinner Bay Park

  • The gazebo at Lighthouse Park

  • St. Mary's Church: deck and ramp (2023)

Lions installed:

  • the flagpoles at Miner's Bay Park

Lions have funded, or helped with funding for the following:

  • Construction of the Health Centre, the emergency room, and the first expansion of the facility.

  • Purchased two stoves for the school kitchen, purchased chairs and helped with school washroom upgrades.

  • The waterfall at the Japanese Gardens, and research for the commemorative plaques in the park..

  • The washrooms and tractor shed at Dinner Bay Park.

  • Purchased a stove for the Agricultural Hall.

  • Building the public library.

Dock Shelter (2024)

The Lions recently completed construction of this much needed dock shelter. It's sure to keep people dry while waiting for transport, especially the kids using the water taxi to get to school. The shelter has now been enhanced with indigenous carvings, installed by Don DeRousie.

Adachi Pavilion (2007)

The Adachi Pavilion "cookhouse" was a Mayne Island Lions Club project built by the Lions Club in Dinner Bay Community Park, beginning in 2007. It's been heavily used and appreciated since then!
